杨建侯，号荷叶村人，男，江苏无锡人。1930年进国立中央大学艺术系就读，为徐悲鸿大师入室弟子。南京师范大学美术学院教授，中国美协江苏分会常务理事、江苏省文联委员等。有油画《铁工》、《太平天国云梯站》，国画《长江沉排工程》、《春满人间》，素描《琴川揽胜》、《桂林全景》等诸多优秀代表作。其中油画《南京解放》为中央军委委托创作，邮电部印制“八一纪念邮票”；《家庭访问》获“江苏油画创作一等奖”；国画《群雁来归》被美术界专家誉为中国工笔重彩花鸟画之瑰宝，堪与历代名作相并。出版《人物画基本作法》、《写意花鸟画法》等著作。多次举办个人画展。作品常入选国内外重要美展并获奖，在各种报刊、画册上发表，或为国家级博物馆珍藏。中央电视台等海内外广播电视和报刊多次专题专版介绍过其艺术生涯。
