李瑞年，油画家。天津人。１９２９年入北平大学艺术学院学习西洋画。１９３３年赴欧洲留学。先后入比利时皇家美术学院、布鲁塞尔皇家美术学院和法国巴黎国立高等学校学习。在比利时皇家美术学院曾获荣誉第一奖。1937年回国，在重庆任中国美术学院副研究员、昆明艺术专科学校教员，中国美术学院副研究员，中央大学、北平艺术专科学校教授。建国后，历任中央美术学院、北京师范大学、北京师范学院美术系教授兼系主任，北京市美术教育协会会长，中国美协北京分会副主席。并曾担任第五、六届北京市政协委员，北京市文联常务理事，中国美术家协会北京分会副主席，全国美术教育研究会筹委会主任，第一届国务院学位委员会文学学科评议组成员，北京市高等学校各学科教师职称评审成员等职。中国民主同盟盟员。作品有《枯木逢春》、《暴风雨》、《采花人》等。出版有《李瑞年作品小辑》、《怎样画风景》。
自1939年至1985年，李瑞年一直从事美术教育。40年代和50年代初，他与徐悲鸿、黄显之、吕斯百在中央大学的合作教学，以及后来同徐悲鸿在国立北平艺术专科学校（即今中央美术学院）的教学活动，成为他美术教育生涯中最辉煌的时刻。李瑞年以素描和油画风景作品闻名，被徐悲鸿称为中国油画风景第一。徐先生称他的画“质朴隽永，手法严谨，是极为可喜的自然主义，是抒情诗”。

Li ruinian, a painter. People from Tianjin. In 1929, he entered the school of art of Peking University to study western painting. In 1933, he went to Europe to study. He has successively studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and the National University of Paris in France. He won the first prize of honor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium. In 1937, he returned to China and served as an associate researcher of China Academy of fine arts, a faculty member of Kunming Art College, an associate researcher of China Academy of fine arts, and a professor of Central University and Beiping art college. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, he has successively served as a professor and head of the Department of fine arts of the Central Academy of fine arts, Beijing Normal University and Beijing Normal University, President of Beijing Fine Arts Education Association and vice chairman of Beijing Branch of China Artists Association. He also served as a member of the 5th and 6th CPPCC Beijing committee, executive director of Beijing Federation of literary and art circles, vice chairman of Beijing Branch of China Artists Association, director of the Preparatory Committee of National Art Education Research Association, member of the literary discipline evaluation group of the first academic degree committee of the state Council, and member of the title evaluation of teachers of various disciplines in Beijing institutions of higher learning. Member of China Democratic League. His works include "dead wood for spring", "storm", "flower picker", etc. He has published a small collection of Li ruinian's works and how to draw landscapes.

From 1939 to 1985, Li ruinian was engaged in art education. In the 1940s and the early 1950s, his cooperative teaching with Xu Beihong, Huang Xianzhi and LV Sibai in Central University, as well as his later teaching activities with Xu Beihong in the national Beiping Art College (now the Central Academy of Fine Arts), became the most brilliant moment in his art education career. Li ruinian is famous for his sketches and oil paintings, which Xu Beihong called the first in Chinese oil paintings. Mr. Xu called his paintings "simple and meaningful, rigorous, extremely gratifying naturalism, lyric poetry".
