生于四川重庆，现居成都，任中国油画学会理事，四川省美术家协会副主席，油画艺术委员会主任，成都美术家协会副主席。周春芽以80年代《藏族新一代》成名，“绿狗”家喻户晓，在“桃花”系列中获得艺术的空前突破，在当代绘画领域，他是最早放弃图解艺术的现代主义实验者，他将传统气质与当代观念进行了有效地结合，是“新绘画”历史发展中最重要的代表人物之一。他的作品被国内和国外的收藏家广泛收藏。
