王孟奇，生于江苏无锡市。1977年毕业于南京艺术学院中国画专业，现为上海大学美术学院教授、博士生导师、南京艺术学院客座教授、上海中国画院画师、中国美术家协会会员。被美术界认为是“新文人画”代表性画家。作品曾多次入选国内外重大展览并获奖；1973年全国连环画、中国画作品展；1976年全国美术作品展；1980年全国青年美展，获江苏省连环画首评一等奖；第六届全国美展；历届中国新文人画展；第八届全国美展；文化部中国艺术大展；美国古根海姆博物馆中国五千年文明艺术展；上海美术双年展；获第九届全国美展优秀奖；深圳国际水墨双年展；文化部百年中国画展；法国巴黎中国文化季.现代水墨作品展;获上海美术大展艺术二等奖;中国美术馆建馆四十周年。开放的时代美术作品展;获文化部第三届全国画院优秀作品展最佳奖等。被评论界认为是该活动的代表性画家之一。出版有《王孟奇画集》《王孟奇画册》《二十世纪下半叶中国新文人画精品选·王孟奇》等。
