吴子深，原名华源，初字渔邨，后字子琛，号桃坞居士，江苏苏州人，曾赴日本考察美术。家为吴中望族，收藏宋元古画甚富。曾以巨资创建苏州美术专科学校于沧浪亭畔，自任校董及教授。擅山水、兰竹，顾云弟子；并精于医道。山水远师董源，近宗董其昌，笔墨清秀。竹石师文同，偃仰疏密、合乎法度。书宗米芾。1927年斥巨资在苏州“沧浪亭”创设苏州美专校舍。吴氏与吴待秋、吴湖帆、吴观岱有“江南四吴”之称，与冯超然等有“三吴一冯”之称。建国后，居香港，卒于印度尼西亚。作品多数流散海外。《梅竹又清图》轴，图录于《1947年中国美术年鉴》。著有《客窗残影》。生于苏州桃花坞。早年从舅父学医，1917年后从李醉石、周乔年学画，并向顾鹤逸请益。1928年任苏州美专校董会主席。1929年赴日本考察美术。1930年发起组织桃坞画社。1948年被聘为上海文化运动委员会主办的美术评奖委员。三四十年代在上海与吴湖帆、吴待秋、冯超然被称为“三吴一冯”。1949年赴香港。1966年应张大千之请赴台北，任教于台湾艺术学院国画系。1972年迁居印度尼西亚。擅画山水竹石，亦能书法。著有《客窗残影》、《吴子深山水竹石集册》等。吴氏山水远宗董源，近师董其昌，布局规矩，笔墨清秀，气格纯正。竹石师文同，偃仰疏密合乎法度，无明清文人习气。书法先习董其昌，后转攻米芾，韵致儒雅不俗。
