萧淑芳，中央美术学院教授。著名画家吴作人的夫人。1926-1928年入北平国立艺专学西画。1929-1930年在南京中央大学艺术系师从徐悲鸿先生。1930-1933年在北京随汪慎生、陈少鹿、汤定之、齐白石等学中国画。1937年到瑞士和英国学习，并举行个人画展。1940年回国后，在上海培成女中、市立师范专科学校任教。1945年在上海青年会举办个人画展。1946年参加上海美术家作家协会，任理事。
1947－1949年任教于北平国立艺专。1950－现在任中央美术学院国画系副教授、教授，中国美术家协会会员。全国妇联第四届执委。中国民主同盟盟员。吴作人艺术馆馆长、吴作人国际美术基金会会长。早期从事水彩画创作和教学，代表作如《丁香花》、《大丽花》及《女少先队员》等。1973－1977年为国宾馆、外交部驻外大使馆作画，均收藏于国内外使馆中。1980－1988年与吴作人应邀出访及文化交流。先后访问阿根庭、美国、加拿大、日本、澳大利亚、法国、比利时、荷兰卢森堡、新加坡及香港等地,开画展并讲学。1993年在北京中央美术学院画廊开个人花卉展。代表作有《山花烂漫》、《紫鸢》、《杜鹃花》、《君子兰》、《郁金香》、《丁香》和《红梅》等。许多作品为中国美术馆、国宾馆、我国驻外使馆及海内外藏家等收藏。
80年代以来，先后访问过阿根廷、澳大利亚、美国、日本、新加坡、比利时、卢森堡、法国和香港，举行《吴作人、萧淑芳中国画展》及文化交流等活动。1993年以来，曾在北京、苏州、中山、深圳等地多次举办个人画展。2001年在中国美术馆举办《萧淑芳从艺75周年回顾展》，2004年在北京、苏州巡回展出《萧淑芳九十以后新作展》。出版有《走过九十—萧淑芳画集》、《萧淑芳画选》、《荣宝斋萧淑芳花卉画谱》、《中国儿童游戏》、《吴作人、萧淑芳中国画集》等。
于2005年12月20日在北京逝世，享年94岁。

萧氏以深厚的西画根底转攻国画，其特点是以没骨点垛作装饰性构图，用笔沉静，力量、速度大体平均，其韵律主要依靠物象不同的色彩、形状的组合而获得体现，而少有轻重疾徐、顿挫转折的节奏变化。
花叶缤纷烂漫，而格调文静娟秀，为传统画法中所未见，又能为雅俗所共赏，洵艺苑之奇葩、玉台之清品，尤以小幅更为精到。
萧淑芳是当代著名的花卉画家，但她并不只是专攻花卉，举凡风景、静物、肖像等等，无不喜爱，无所不能。她的花卉艺术能达到如此高超的境地，是与她在艺术上广博的爱好和修养分不开的，还在青年时代，当绘事学步之初，她就注意到对绘画各门类和多种的广泛研飞。一方面从汪慎生、汤定之学花鸟山水，到齐白石家中请教笔墨之道，另一方面又及时投奔徐悲鸿之门，钻研造型基本功，同时练习油画。三十年代居英国时，又进斯莱德美术学校学习雕塑，同时还涉猎色粉笔和木刻等多种绘画样式，表现出她对美术的多方面的旨趣。人们都知道，她把水彩技巧有机地融入了中国画的水墨丹青，这一点可以从她的彩墨《丁香》和水彩《丁香》这两幅作品上最明显地看来脉胳。
她的许多油画静物，如芍药、月季、绣球等，与后来创作的许多彩墨花卉，也有着极为密切的关系。萧淑芳的水彩作品色调明快，风格隽永，对于将中国水墨的意境融入西方绘画传统做出了有益的尝试，在画坛享有盛誉。曾出版《水彩画技法》等著作，对自己的实践进行系统阐述。

萧淑芳的花卉画在题材选取上极具个性。她喜欢画的花卉大约有四五十种，如紫鸢、绣球、兰草、水仙、杜鹃、虞美人、扶桑、向日葵、紫丁香等，几乎全是野花。而紫色是萧淑芳的最爱。生长在东北沼泽边缘的鸢尾花是她深爱着的一种野花，颜色为深紫色。她研究出的紫色是一般人很难调配出来的，似乎成了她色彩的专利。为了突出带有飘逸感的花朵，她删繁就简，有意将长而繁多的叶子加工为疏密有致的短小状；画面洋溢着令人赏心悦目的质朴。
随兴吟咏，情趣盎然，是萧师新作引人兴味的又一特点。识画者曾说，画山要有神韵，画花鸟要有情趣。我们纵览为数可观的新作，特别是花卉小品，恍惚追随艺术家，跟她一样，以恬适明净之心，漫步在春天里，邂逅在百花间。
