周昌谷(1929-1985)，号老谷。浙江乐清人。自幼喜爱诗文书画，1948年考入国立艺术专科学校，毕业后留校任教。历任浙江美术学院教授、中国美术家协会理事、浙江美术家协会副主席等职。周昌谷对传统笔墨技法深有研究，尝潜心学习八大、石涛、徐青藤、方方壶、吴昌硕、黄宾虹等人作品，并赴敦煌临摹壁画。又对西方印象派、野兽派色彩亦有所汲取。善于兼容并蓄，融会贯通，将传统花鸟画用笔移植于人物画中，用色和运墨也极见匠心。其画多以少数民族生活为题，注重表现蕴藏在平常生活中的诗情画意，富有韵味，代表作《两个羊羔》荣获第五届世界青年联欢节金质奖章。其草书、篆刻也有精深造诣。周昌谷是现代浙派人物画代表人物之一。作品有《两个羊羔》、《荔枝熟了》、《春》 等。著有《意笔人物画技法探索》、《妙语与创造》，出版有《周昌谷画选》等。

 周昌谷（1929-1986），自幼爱好绘画，1948年考入杭州国立艺术专科学校(现中国美术学院)学习素掐、油画、国画，毕业后留校任教，专攻国画。曾去敦煌临摹壁画。创作受徐渭、朱耷、石涛、吴昌硕、潘天寿等文人画的影响，并结合西法，形成了清新而苍郁的艺术风格。擅意笔人物，多以少数民族生活入题，笔法娴熟，善于用色用水，注重本性流露，人物形象生动，意境高远。间写花卉，明艳多姿。1955年作品《两个羊羔》获第五届世界青年联欢节金质奖章，另有作品多次入选全国和省级美术作品展览，或选送国外展出，或被美术馆、博物馆收藏。曾多次在杭州等地举办个人画展。生前为中国美术家协会理事，浙江美术家协会副主席，中国美术学院教授。

 代表作有《在草地上》、《山阴道上》、《苏州姑娘》、《踏遍青山》、《壮族姑娘》、《在竹楼上》、《喜讯传来》、《上高原》、《听秋声》、《牧羊》、《碧桃》、《荔枝熟了》、《秋思》、《节日来了》、《秋林牧马》、《边塞舂晓》、《李白诗意》、《傣族姑娘》、《芍药》等。著有《意笔人物画技法探索》、《妙语与创造》等。出版《周昌谷画辑》、《周昌谷画册》等。

It also draws on Western Impressionism and fauvism. Be good at compatibility and integration, and transplant traditional flower and bird paintings with brushes into figure paintings. The use of color and ink is also very ingenious. His paintings are mostly about the life of minority nationalities, focusing on expressing the poetic and picturesque flavor hidden in ordinary life. His masterpiece Two Lambs won the gold medal of the Fifth World Youth Festival. His cursive scripts and seal carvings also have profound attainments. After graduation, he stayed in school to teach and specialize in traditional Chinese painting. He went to Dunhuang to copy murals. Creation by Xu Wei, Zhu Jin, Shi Tao, Wu Changshuo, Pan Tianshou and other literati paintings, combined with Western France, formed a fresh and gloomy artistic style. Good at writing characters, mostly with minority life as the topic, skilled writing skills, good at using color and water, pay attention to nature, vivid characters, high artistic conception. Between the flowers, bright and colorful. In 1955, "Two Lambs" was awarded the Golden Medal of the Fifth World Youth Festival. Other works were selected for national and provincial art exhibitions, or for exhibition abroad, or for collection by art galleries and museums.
