William was born in Mount Setauket, Long Island, New York, November 26th, mount Thomas Shepard, on 1807, and his wife. He trained at the National Institute of design in New York, in 1832, was a complete academician. In November 19, 1868, he died of Setauket.
Although he started as a historical painter, he moved to the mountains to paint the scenes of everyday life. Two of his paintings more eel out new shoots in Setauket (1845, New York state historical society, Cooperstown) a horse and bargain (1835, New York historical society, New York city).
The largest collection of his works is located at the Long Island Museum of American art, history and carriage.
Musical heritage

William Sid Whitney house and other relics
His home and studio, William Sid Whitney house, is a national historic landmark. The local primary school of the three villages of the central campus for his name, PS, the 174 primary school "government transformation" of the park, Queens. [3] residential building is the name of his name.
Family
His brother, Shepard Alonzo Mount (1804 - 1868), was also an artist, the most famous portrait painter, and became a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 1842.
